Gwen Walford care home is a purpose-built home located in stunning, wooded grounds on the banks of the River Wye, close to the centre of the bustling cathedral city of Hereford.
This care home has a modern design and is decorated in a calm, soothing palette of colours. Each of the 30 bedrooms has been tastefully and elegantly decorated and is equipped with adjustable beds, furniture, and televisions. They all come with en-suite wet rooms, some with private patio areas, but for our residents who require further support, there’s also easy access to assisted bathrooms.
The atmosphere inside Gwen Walford is warm and welcoming. A comforting mix of treasured possessions and new, high-quality furnishings and fittings makes it feel like a real home-from-home.
Our all-inclusive fee includes; 24-hour care, all food & beverages, monthly appointments at our on-site hairdressing salon, lifestyle programme, communal newspapers, regular events & entertainers, trips out in the minibus, TV, WIFI, and daily in-house laundry service.

At Gwen Walford, our dedicated Lifestyle Coordinators strive to provide a wide variety of activities and lifestyle options. In addition to catering to existing hobbies and interests, they organise an extensive array of inclusive and inviting sessions, such as lunch clubs, pamper days, indoor skittles, and cookery clubs.
While residents enjoy their time indoors, our enthusiastic team is always available to assist them in taking leisurely strolls through the gardens or arranging outings using the home’s minibus for visits to the garden centre or a bit of shopping.
Maintaining community connections is a vital part of life at Gwen Walford. Our residents, staff, family, and friends regularly participate in various local celebrations and charity events, fostering a strong sense of community.
We are also delighted to introduce the Rotherwood Wellness Programme, featuring daily exercise sessions as part of our innovative initiative. This program is uniquely designed around isometric exercises, which have been shown to enhance health and well-being through safe, low-impact movements.

Dining at Gwen Walford House is very much a tailor-made experience. Our residents are able to choose how, where, and when they would like to eat, ensuring that mealtimes are as pleasurable as possible, considering medical conditions.
If our residents choose to remain in their own room, join friends and family in our beautiful dining room or eat outside, then it can be catered for. Whatever the individual wants and needs, staff ensure they get a tasty and nutritious meal. Even where smaller portions are necessary, they’re fortified to ensure no goodness is lost – a hugely important detail.
We are delighted that our nursing home has been awarded a prestigious 5-star food hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency. This achievement follows a rigorous unannounced inspection conducted by the Herefordshire Environmental Health Department on 20th June 2023.
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is a crucial initiative aimed at ensuring businesses involved in food supply, sale, or consumption adhere to strict food hygiene laws. During the inspection, a dedicated Food Safety Officer meticulously assessed our food handling, storage, and preparation practices, as well as overall cleanliness and safety of our facilities. To achieve the highest rating of 5 stars we demonstrated full compliance with all aspects of the scheme. We take immense pride in this accomplishment, which reflects our unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of food safety and hygiene for the wellbeing of our residents and staff.
